MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It was only a matter of time before the University of Miami made a change.

It had to be done.

They’re changing the nameplate font on the uniforms.

It was announced by Miami athletic director Blake James via Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

A mix of lowercase and capital letters, the font was unique and further customized the Canes new uniforms from that of other Adidas-sponsored schools. Miami will go to a traditional block font style – all standard capital letters.

In July, the school unveiled the “3StripeLife” football uniforms at a release party at Fontainebleau’s Club LIV.

While the new unis were met with applause and acclaim right out of the gate, some fans weren’t happy with the font choice for the players’ names on the back of the uniforms.

The Hurricanes inked a deal with Adidas, which began on September 1st and runs through June 30th, 2027 and is said to be one of the richest deals in all of college sports.

Miami was 3-0 wearing the original font and it will be interesting to see how things play out after the change. Enjoying a bye this week, the Hurricanes will travel to Cincinnati for an October 1st game and will face rival Florida State in Tallahassee on October 10th.
